La Redole is located at 90 chemin de Redoles, Turenne, France.
Ways to Get There
You will likely need to rent or borrow a car to stay at La Redole—the town of Turenne is an easy walk, but there is limited shopping available. And besides, there are so many amazing things to see and do in the region!
Flights: We generally fly to Paris or Toulouse as the nearest international airports. You can also fly regional airlines into Brive-la-Gaillard or Bordeaux.
Trains: The closest major train station is Brive-la-Gaillard. There is a very small commuter line that stops in Turenne-Gare, which is a town 3km down the hill from Turenne itself.
Car: The closest major highway is the A20, which comes down through Brive. The D8 goes right between Turenne and La Redole.
Recommended Routes
Our preferred itinerary is:
- Flight into Paris
- Train from Gare d’Austerlitz to Brive-la-Gaillard
- Rent a car in Brive and drive to La Redole
Alternatives include flying into Toulouse (~2h south) and driving from there; this is a good option if you fly through e.g. Madrid. You can also look at regional flights to Brive-la-Gaillard (~15m) or Bordeaux (~2.5h). Of course you can also drive from Paris, Italy, Spain, Germany…

Providers
Flights
Flying into Paris (typically CDG) or Madrid (MAD) or other international airports you will have your choice of carriers.
Toulouse (TLS) services airlines such as Ryanair, EasyJet, Volotéa, and Tap Portugal. Their website allows you to search for flights and download a full schedule of all flights (note that many are seasonal).
The Brive airport is very tiny and only Ryanair and Chalair fly there.
Trains
There is regular service to and from Paris, from the Gare d’Austerlitz to Brive-la-Gaillard. During the summer, there are at least six trains a day.
We recommend Trainline as a booking site for train tickets; you can get them direct from SNCF, but Trainline offers better support and connecting routes.
Cars
If renting from a large city or international airport, you’ll have your choice of providers.
If you take the train to Brive, your choices are limited to Avis, Hertz, Enterprise, and maybe Europcar.
- Avis is the most convenient; you pick up your keys right at the train station ticket counter, and the car will be located in the parking lot directly behind the train station. The only challenge is that their largest car only seats five (tight) with minimal luggage.
- Hertz is another good option and one that has larger vehicles, but you’ll have to take a taxi from the train station to their facility.
- Enterprise has a location around the corner from the train station, but we have not tried to rent from them.
Important Timing Note
One thing to be aware of: the French take their time off seriously. Pay attention to the hours listed on websites for rental car facilities and other stores: if they aren’t listed as open, they won’t be. Often smaller stores aren’t open Sundays and Mondays at all, and many places close for several hours around lunchtime.
Even if a store listing says it will be open, it won’t always actually be open, particularly in the summer. If you can, call ahead and confirm if you can!
We generally recommend arriving in the region in the early afternoon of Tuesday through Friday. This will give you plenty of time to get your car and go shopping for groceries before the stores close. Any other times you may be hard-pressed to find places that are open.
Last but not least, you will likely be picking up a key to La Redole from a neighbor, who won’t appreciate being woken up late or may be out during parts of the day. Better to arrange a specific pickup time and stay in touch if plans change.
